چکیده مقاله
In this study, the effects of accumulative roll bonding (ARB) and two different reinforcement types, namely aluminum powder and graphene oxide (GO), on the mechanical properties of 1020 aluminum alloy were systematically investigated. Pure aluminum sheets were processed through multiple ARB passes, while aluminum matrix composites reinforced with aluminum powder (Al–AlPow) and graphene oxide (Al–GO) were fabricated under similar conditions. Uniaxial tensile tests were conducted to evaluate the ultimate tensile strength (UTS), fracture strain, and deformation energy. The results showed that ARB processing of pure aluminum led to a gradual increase in UTS from 218.2 MPa to 259.4 MPa after five passes, without a noticeable reduction in ductility, indicating effective strain hardening and grain refinement. In contrast, the incorporation of aluminum powder resulted in a significant deterioration of mechanical properties, mainly due to poor particle distribution, oxide layers, and weak interfacial bonding. Conversely, the addition of graphene oxide combined with ARB processing produced a simultaneous enhancement in strength, ductility, and energy absorption. The Al–GO composite achieved a maximum UTS of 263.8 MPa and fracture strain of 15% at the fourth pass, along with a substantial increase in deformation energy. These improvements are attributed to the synergistic action of strengthening mechanisms such as load transfer, grain boundary pinning, and crack-bridging effects induced by graphene oxide. Overall, the findings demonstrate that graphene oxide is a highly effective reinforcement for aluminum matrix composites processed by ARB, offering superior mechanical performance compared to conventional aluminum powder reinforcements.
